A Ceilidh is the perfect entertainment at a wedding as it brings everyone together, whether young or old or in possession of two left feet! It keeps all the action of your evening on the dancefloor so all your guests have the same shared experience to talk about for years to come.
Whether your guests are beginners, seasoned dancers or it's a mixed crowd - our wedding ceilidh's are geared up to be inclusive for all! We've handpicked the best dances to create a set-list full of classic dances anyone with experience will know and love, but that are fun & simple enough to teach to those with none!
Licence to Ceilidh have 15 years worth of experience playing at Weddings and know exactly how to make your special day run smoothly.
We’ll find a convenient time in your day to set-up our equipment, usually during the turn-around after dinner when your venue staff are moving or clearing tables and your guests are freshening up before the evening entertainment.
We can make music and dance suggestions for every part of your day – from Ceremony to Reception to Post Ceilidh Disco!
The most popular option for music during the ceremony is our Classical Quartet, who can play a wide selection of classical pieces as well as some arrangements of more modern music.
For a more celtic touch, our fiddle & guitar duo is also very popular for wedding ceremonies. Or some choose to go for a solo Flautist who can play either classical or celtic music.
With all options we can liaise with you in advance and send suggestions for pieces of music that work well for the entrance of the bride, signing the register and the exit of bride & groom and guests.
see our Additional Services page for the full list of music options we can provide throughout your day
If you've booked entertainment for your ceremony they can continue to play for your drinks reception afterwards - or our Jazz trio's and quartets are very popular for background music during this time.
It's great to have some high quality live music while you're drinking pimms on the lawn or champagne in the foyer and again we can make some suggestions for music choices that will work well.
Add a final touch by booking some music to listen to during your wedding breakfast, the most popular option for this part of the day is our dinner pianist, who can play a mixture of jazz and more popular music.
You can also arrange for us to be set-up earlier in the day or provide a small speaker with wireless microphone for your speeches.
We can help you decide on a first dance: we can play you a choice of Ceilidh dances that work well for the occasion or perform a traditional waltz for you to dance to. Alternatively, if you have something prepared to a specific song we’ll happily play it for you from our PA.
You can also bring along a playlist of music for us to put on during the break and once we are set up, or we'll bring along a celtic playlist of our own - free of charge.
...and don't forget the final dance! If you want to top off the night with the ultimate Scottish send off why not ask us to finish with an Auld Lang Syne.
"Thanks for making our wedding even more special and memorable..." - Laura & Rob, South Farm

Our Licence to Ceilidh dancers are the perfect addition to your corporate ceilidh...
With our dancer package you get two female dancers (in tartan of course) who will spend the whole evening on the floor interacting with guests! They go to the far corners of the room encouraging people up from their seats, they dance with members of the crowd during the ceilidh and will help the caller out with any demonstrations.
In addition to this many clients also like the dancers to take part in a meet and greet: greeting guests as they arrive at the venue, posing for any photos and mingling with the crowd during a drinks reception.
It can also be nice to start the ceilidh with a short demonstration dance from the girls to give the audience a taste of what's to come!
"Thank you so much for all your help and advice with the event. It was a real change for us as we have never had dancing before, so we are very grateful to you all for helping making it such a success for us.- Co-Operation Ireland: Celtic Legal Dinner at The Dorchester Hotel, London
"It was an absolute pleasure to work with Licence to Ceilidh – what a fantastic way to end our company day event! The feedback from everyone across the company has been brilliant – they really did throw themselves into the dancing! I’ve had numerous people asking me for the name of the band and one person is now thinking about a Ceilidh band at her wedding! Thanks again to your team – great fun and if I need a Ceilidh band in the future, you’ll certainly be my first port of call." - UKTV: Company Away day, London

…and a Ceilidh is the perfect thing for this! What else could get all your guests mingling and meeting each other, in such a fun-filled way?

We've performed at Birthday parties for many famous faces including playing on seperate occasions for both Sting and his son's Birthday Parties, Charlie Boorman (Long Way Round) and David Yates (the Harry Potter director)! We've also had a sudden spike in playing for 18th and 21st Birthday parties since performing on E4's Made in Chelsea a couple of years ago and recently ITV's TOWIE (The Only Way Is Essex)!
"The band were AWESOME! Streets ahead of everyone else we considered. ...the whole celebration was utterly magical Please pass on our thanks to Jim and the others for making my birthday such a wonderful, unforgettable occasion..." - Malcolm, 60th Birthday Party

Having a Ceilidh for a Student Night is the latest craze! Ceilidhs and traditional music are becoming really popular these days (we like to think that's in part due to our regular appearances on hit TV shows like Made in Chelsea (E4) and TOWIE (The Only Way Is Essex - ITV)!
Either way, Students are getting bored of the same old club nights and beach themed parties, so why not try something completely different?
It’s the perfect Icebreaker and a great way to mix and mingle! You get to dance and swing around with lots of different people during the night - if you like them you can keep the same partner from dance to dance or try dancing with someone different every time!
It’s also a great way to introduce International Students to some traditional Great British culture - we've hosted a Ceilidh 5 years running for Brunel University's International Student Welcome Event!
We've performed numerous student night ceilidhs for Amnesty International (3 years running), the Royal Academy of Music, Cambridge University and Brunel University!
"Licence to Ceilidh played at one of our Amnesty International flagship events and created a wonderful all inclusive atmosphere that each of our 250 guests thoroughly enjoyed… we received countless amounts of amazing feedback from our student delegates…" - Michael Huyton, Amnesty International UK
Licence To Ceilidh are the perfect addition to a modern Scottish evening! Once you've devoured your Burns Supper and you're full to the brim with Scotch Broth, Haggis and Cranachan, the only way to finish off a Burns Night is with a Scottish Ceilidh!
We can also provide a Highland Piper in full highland dress to pipe in your Haggis and perform the famous Address to the Haggis toast (along with other toasts upon request: Selkirk Grace / Toast to the Lassies / Reply to the Laddies etc). ...don't forget to provide him with a knife to stab the haggis and a dram of whisky for the traditional drink with the chef afterwards.
It's also become popular to have one of our Celtic Fiddle & Guitar Duos as background music through your meal or drink reception. Click here to read more about our usual Piper Callum and see all the additional entertainment options we can provide....
The weeks around Burns Night is the busiest time of year for us, we perform lots of repeat bookings each year for clients including Herbert Smith Freehills LLP (8 years running), Ceilidh Club (12 years running), Wickwoods Country Club, Vinopolis, Allen & Overy LLP, Emmanuel School and other Burns Night clients include Edinburgh University Alumni Club, Apple, Dunhumby, BP Castrol, Dover College and Brighton Grand Hotel. We may wear a lot of tartan but we do regularly perform for Irish nights too and can offer a fantastic Irish style ceilidh for your St. Patrick's Day Event! Complete with Shamrock Green lighting, outfits and accessories!!
For an Irish night we'd include some classic Irish Ceili dances like the Seige of Ennis, the Bridge of Athlone and the Waves of Tory mixed in with other fun dances that are popular in all traditions and simple to teach to any beginners. We'll pair these with popular Irish tunes and can even provide a playlist for the break of lively Irish songs everyone can sing along to! (though we don't perform any songs ourselves). For that extra Irish touch why not add an Irish Flute/Whistle player to the line-up and/or a Bodhran player! (see our Larger Line-ups page for more info)
Our band dress code for Paddy's Day is ladies in our recognisable green style dresses and sashes/ribbon and the gents in smart black suits with green ties!
Recently we've spent St Patricks Day in the United Arab Emirates, Vinopolis, the Rendezvous Casino: Southend-on-Sea and the Cheltenham Races: St. Patrick's Day Festival among others...
